The 5 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Speak with integrity and say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

The Third Agreement – DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

The Fourth Agreement – ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

Doing your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are tired as opposed to well rested. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

Don’t believe yourself or anybody else unconditionally. Use the power of doubt to question everything you hear: Is it really the truth? Listen to the intent behind the words and you will understand the real message.

“By practising the Five Agreements, what you are really doing is respecting everything in creation. You are respecting your dream; you are respecting everybody else’s dream. If you use these tools, your effort is really for everyone, because your joy, your happiness, your peace, and your heaven are contagious. When you are happy, the people around you are happy too, and it inspires them to change their own world.” – Don Miguel Ruiz

Be curious, open and kind.

If you find a comment or post to be offensive, off-topic, too generalising, aggressive, dehumanizing or in any other way inappropriate, please report it immediately. Our team will look into it and can delete or alter posts, so they meet the standards of civil behaviour.

On the other hand, we all write or say things that we mean well and it turns out that they are offensive in some way to someone. Learn and move on. It's ok to make mistakes and there are at least two sides to a story and when we mean well and it turns out that we weren't aware of something criticism might hurt, it doesn't have to. It's an opportunity to learn.

As we all make mistakes and we all get offended and we all need to learn and apologise and change our view at times do all of that with kindness and compassion towards yourself and others - no matter on which side of the argument you stand.

It's hard to listen with an open heart when we are harshly attacked, so kindness, patience and compassion is a way of being heard and understood.

Thank you!
